Introducing – Dusty Bottoms

Yes, I know that I haven’t posted in a really long time, but I have been really busy! I will fill you in at another time, but for now I will just fill you in on the newest addition to our furry family! 😀 Introducing – Dusty Bottoms!

And for those of you who just thought of this character…

Chevy Chase as Dusty Bottoms in the movie Three Amigos

…congratulations! You know your ’80s movies! 😉

We started calling him that when we first got him because we thought that he looked a bit dirty or dusty with all of the grey in his fur, and the name stuck! We also have been known to watch ’80s movies…haha!!

See, he looks a bit dirty.

I absolutely love his little white toes! 😀 Right now he is just shy of 3 months old and he is a Husky/German Shepherd cross. He is the cutest little guy! I really hope that his ears go up, and I think that they are trying to, but I guess that they look pretty adorable down too.

He also has a white spot on his lower jaw and his chest.

We were all kind of nervous about getting a puppy because we haven’t had one in almost 10 years (is Jesse really that old? Wow!), but he has been doing really, really great! We have had him for a few weeks and already he knows his name, will come (most of the time), is starting to sit (again, most of the time! The world is so distracting!), and he is almost completely potty trained!

We are dealing with the teething thing, but he is a puppy! He has only gotten a hold of and destroyed one thing he shouldn’t have, which I think is pretty great considering his age.

What do you see Dusty?

He is a really smart little guy and loves figuring out different ways to get Jesse to play with him! He likes to sneak up on her, take her ball away, and then run around and make her chase him!

Preparing for the pounce…

But he is also really mellow. When Jesse was a puppy, she was bouncing off of the walls (and she still does really often) all of the time and we would play with her for hours until she would calm down and sleep. But this little guy is just as happy to stop playing and get pet or cuddle up on your lap as he is to play tug-o-war!

And he LOVES tug-o-war! He will play that for hours and hours without end.

Jesse was super excited to have the new little guy for about the first week, but now she plays just enough to get him to stop messing with her and then finds a spot to sleep. She still really likes him, but as the novelty has worn off, she has realized that he will inevitable add to her grey hair.

Best buddies!

The one and only problem that we have had with him so far is that he has figured out how to squeeze himself through the fence of the dog run and escape! But I think that we just have to wait a bit for him to get bigger so that he won’t fit through anymore. We have rigged up some bailing twine (I know – so redneck, but it was a cheap alternative to new fencing) so that he can’t get through any more. That has been a great success, but I think mostly he has started to figure out that he should just stay in the dog run.We haven’t had any escapees recently! 😉

All in all, he is a great little guy, we love him to death, and he has quickly become a very important part of our family! ❤ We can’t wait to watch him grow and become a really great dog!
